In 1966, Joseph and Katherine Calhoun established Calhoun Associates, Inc.  Joseph Calhoun was a veteran who served with the Navy and Katherine Calhoun juggled caring for their 3 sons and working full time with the business.   In 1969 Newton Calhoun, their middle son, joined the business and their youngest son, Donald Calhoun joined in 1978. 

 

Initially the business focused on commercial and industrial water treatment services.  At the request of customers, Joseph expanded the business to provide air filters.   At this time, the air filter industry commonly used metal washable filters.  Calhoun Associates initially started air filter service by removing dirty metal washable filters, installing a second set and cleaning the filters in house so they were ready to use for the next change out.  This was Newton’s first job with the company.  In the mid-1970s Calhoun Associates further expanded by offering manufactured disposable air filters, specializing in custom sizes that could not be found at the local hardware store.  Newton established the process, sourced materials and continuously enhanced their production capabilities.  It was around the same time that manufacturing started that Calhoun Associates was asked to provide duct and HVAC component cleanings.

 

Throughout her life and until her passing in 2006, Katherine worked full time serving as the company President but also manufacturing filters on a daily basis.  Until his passing in 2017, Donald worked along side his brother as the Sales and Account Executive.  Donald established relationships and helped set the standard for the customer service that continues today.  Currently, over 50 years later, Newton continues to manage and be involved in all aspects of the business, including manufacturing, distribution and service as well as serving as the President of Calhoun Associates. 

 

Calhoun Associates currently employees over 30 full time people.  Newton has established a team to manage and carry out the daily operations including his daughter Christina Calhoun, who serves as the Sales and Account Manager.  Jeff Chesney has been with the company for over 35 years is the Service Manager.  Nina Giocoli has been with the company since 2009 and serves as the is the Office and Human Resources Manager.  John Grose started in 2019 is the General Manager and oversees the manufacturing and and distribution process.   Their roles cannot be simply defined by these titles as they are the team whose goal is to maintain and nurture a culture of excellence and service.
